This weekend on April 8th we celebrated pick a bird day – what is your favourite bird? Here are some of our favourite read-aloud stories about birds!

Have you seen birds?

A band, a flight, a flock of birds – the world is full of lots of birds!

Spring, summer, autumn and winter birds; woodland, meadow, sea and marsh birds ― all are brought to life in lively, lyrical prose and rich Plasticine illustration. Colour and movement abound in every word and every detail, making each bird memorable.

A timely reissue, of a celebrated picture book, that reminds us to respect our natural world.

Birds

Perfect for the small dreamers and naturalists in your life, this critically acclaimed picture book is from the award-winning husband-and-wife team of Kevin Henkes and Laura Dronzek.

With a fine eye for detail, a girl observes and describes birds—their sizes, their colors, their shapes, the way they move and appear and disappear, and how they are most like her. She imagines what it would be like if clouds looked like birds, or if she could ask the birds questions.

Though she can’t fly, the girl can do one thing birds do—she can sing. Vibrant and lively paintings accompany a text pitched precisely to preschoolers in this husband-and-wife collaboration.

Hungry Bird

Bird is hiking with his friends when his tummy rumbles. But no one packed him a snack that he likes! With every step, his hunger mounts until he collapses on the ground. How will Bird survive if he doesn't eat the perfect something this instant?!

The hilarious, blue-feathered diva who first starred in Jeremy Tankard's high-flying debut,Grumpy Bird, returns in another laugh-out-loud melodrama.
